Some communities hold Pride-related events-including art and history exhibits, concerts, film screenings, workshops, and myriad parties-over a full week or more leading up to the main day or weekend, when there’s typically a Pride parade and festival. The first of these were begun as efforts to express support and solidarity for LGBTQ rights following New York City’s infamous Stonewall Riots of 1969, and over the years they’ve spread into even relatively small cities around the world. There won’t be a Pride Parade in the City of Angels in 2021. Organizers will provide more information in advance of the festival. It will feature events in one of San Francisco’s neighborhoods on Sunday, 10 October. The City by the Bay has cancelled its Pride Parade once again this year but in October everyone is invited to the inaugural LGBTQ+ Freedom Festival in honor of National Coming Out Day.
The 51st annual Chicago Pride Parade will kick off at noon at Montrose Avenue and Broadway in the Uptown neighborhood and march through the city's "Boystown" neighborhood. This year the parade will go on, but will be delayed until Sunday, 3 October.
